The Auto Optimizer – Everything There Is to Know

by    |    Aug 10, 2020    |       10 min read

We know you may think optimizing is a no-brainer, and you can do it by yourself. But let’s be honest, if you want to really scale up your profitability, you need to think big. And guess what? The Auto Optimizer is exactly the tool that can help you become greater!

We gathered a few common questions about Our Auto Optimizer to help you get a better understanding of all its awesomeness and super-powers. Here we go >>

Q: How does the Auto Optimizer work?

A: For Pop and Domain Redirect traffic: The Auto Optimizer has two phases. In the first phase, which is also called the learning phase, you will be asked to set three parameters: minimum learning bid, maximum learning bid, and learning budget per source. The Auto Optimizer will start bidding per source with the range that you set. That way, you will reach more sources and will not overbid. In the second phase, which is also called the optimized phase, you will be asked to set your maximum optimizing bid and your CPA goal. The Auto Optimizer will then bid on the sources with the highest potential according to the data it collected in the first phase.

For Push traffic: The Auto Optimizer has two phases. In the first phase, which is also called the learning phase, you will be asked to set two parameters: earning bid and learning budget per source. The Auto Optimizer tool for Push traffic will study your campaign’s sources by bidding on them with the learning bid inserted. In the second phase, which is also called the optimized phase, you will be asked to set your maximum optimizing bid and your CPA goal. After the Auto Optimizer collected enough data and knows which are the best-converting sources for your campaign, it will find the most suitable bid according to your maximum optimizing bid considering your CPA goal.

Q: I know how to make manual optimization, so why should I use the Auto Optimizer?

A: First, unlike human beings, The Auto Optimizer is always working. This means your campaigns will be optimized even when you’re too busy or just sleeping at night.

Second, you get to use your knowledge to make someone else do the work for you. You set the parameters and tell the optimizer your goals, and it’ll get you there. It’s like having the best employee without having to pay them.

And third, you can optimize on a deeper level all in one campaign (optimization by OS and browser versions).

Q: What are the new parameters of the Auto Optimizer?

A: The new parameters differ between the Auto Optimizer for Pop & Domain and the Auto Optimizer for Push only on the learning phase:

 Auto Optimizer Pop & Domain

  • Min learning bid – the minimum bid of the traffic source on the learning phase
  • Max learning bid – the maximum bid of the traffic source on the learning phase
  • Learning budget per source – the budget of each source for the learning phase
  • Max optimizing bid – the highest bid you are willing to bid
  • CPA goal – desired price per conversion

Auto Optimizer for Push

  • Learning bid – the bid of the traffic source on the learning phase
  • Learning budget per source – the budget of each source for the learning phase
  • Max optimizing bid – the highest bid you are willing to bid
  • CPA goal – desired price per conversion

Q: Why am I requested to implement a postback?

A:  The pixel is required since the algorithm is programmed to optimize the sources based on the conversion data and according to your CPA goal. Without implementing a pixel, the Auto Optimizer cannot work. Read our support article to learn more about how to implement a pixel.

Q: Can the auto optimizer help me achieve my goals?

A: Yes. You have the control here, and the tool will work according to what you tell it to do. So, set the parameters according to your goals, and let it do the work for you.

Q: How much does the learning phase cost?

A: The cost of the learning phase is determined by a new parameter called ‘Learning Budget Per Source.’ Since you’re the one who sets this parameter, the learning phase’s price would be according to your setup.

Our recommendation is to make sure your budget isn’t so small that you miss out on sources, or too high that you will spend more money than you should.

Q: How do I set up the optimizer?

A: You can check out our support center for all the details

Q: Can I pause my optimizer campaign at any time?

A: Yes, of course. It’s important to remember that when you set up an Auto Optimizer campaign, you are still the pilot. The Auto Optimizer is your co-pilot and is there to help you achieve your goals while you’re still in control. So, if you want to pause your campaign, it’s your decision.

Q: I have active campaigns with the previous version of the Auto Optimizer, so will the new optimizer affect them?

A: All existing campaigns with the Auto Optimizer will automatically be adjusted to the enhanced one. Our recommendation is to update the new parameters according to your goals. Check out the support center for more information or contact us.

Q: Does the Auto Optimizer for Push also optimize creatives?

A: No, the auto optimizer for Push will focus on optimizing the campaign’s sources, browser, and OS. If you wish to optimize your creatives, The Juggler, our multiple creatives tool, will assist you with manual A/B testing for quality optimization. Set up the Auto Optimizer and The Juggler for an extremely optimized campaign.

Q: I created and saved a campaign without setting the Auto Optimizer. Can I add the Auto Optimizer if I change my mind?

A: No. Once you save your campaigns, it’ll be impossible to add or remove the optimizer.

Q: Can I manually blacklist sources on Auto Optimizer campaigns?

A: Yes, it is possible. However, if you feel the need to do so, it means the parameters were not set up correctly. We recommend lowering the learning budget per source.

Q: I’ve tried working with the previous version of the Auto Optimizer, but I couldn’t reach my goals. How can I succeed this time?

A: We created the Auto Optimizer for your benefit, and we have never been so sure about a tool. We know the Auto Optimizer can take you to a whole different league. The new auto optimizer is extremely improved with more parameters that would help you be precise and aim to your specific goals. We’ve also written helpful guides (link to support) and have videos to accompany you in the setup process. And don’t forget, our account managers are here to assist you with any questions you may have.

Q: I have questions about the optimizer. How can I get help?

A: You can find answers to some of your questions on our support center, our blog, or you can simply contact your account manager.
